Get to Know: Maggie Dallaire
Freshman, Maggie Dallaire, has earned this week’s Yankee Small College Conference Runner of the Week. In tough NCAA DIII competition this week, Maggie beat her collegiate personal best by a massive 3 minutes and ten seconds; running a 27:12.0 at the Maine State Meet.
Maggie is a recent graduate of Biddeford High School where she was a standout student-athlete. She played soccer all four years and was a member of both the indoor and outdoor track and field teams as well as softball, tennis, and unified basketball. Maggie earned the MPA Principal’s Award in 2020, was an Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute Program Graduate, served as the class secretary & student council advisor, was a Mentor Officer for the incoming freshman class, and participated in the Interact Club, Chess Club, Model United Nations, & Be the Change Team.
At YCCC, Maggie plans on being equally as engaged in co-curricular activities. She is on the cross country team and plans on playing softball in the spring. Maggie will also serve on the student senate here at YCCC.
Here is what Coach Clement had to say:
Maggie is a very motivated and driven student-athlete. In conversations with Maggie, I can tell that she is passionate and excited about the work she does. I have no doubt that the success and determination to get better I’ve seen from her in athletics translates to her academic and professional career. It is because of this determination, I am looking forward to seeing where this season takes her!
Here is what Maggie had to say:
When did you first start running cross country?
I started running cross country this year, in 2021. I ran indoor and outdoor track in high school, and I was interested in trying out cross country!
What is your favorite thing about YCCC so far?
My favorite thing about YCCC so far is the Pratt and Whitney building’s comfy chairs. They themselves are the sole motivation for me to get my chemistry work done.
What is your favorite class at YCCC?
I’d have to say that my favorite class at YCCC is probably Chemistry right now, simply due to the sheer joy I feel whenever I do something even remotely correct.
How have you balanced athletics with academics here at YCCC?
When I get out from my in-person classes, I usually head over to the Pratt and Whitney building and study until practice starts, which gives me at least an hour and a half per day there. This way I don’t have so much of a workload when I get home, and I’m usually much more motivated to complete my simple tasks when I’m at my house.
Do you have any pets?
I have the cutest Labrador Retriever in the world named Darcy. She is an avid swimmer and hiker, but she is awfully mischievous when it comes to getting treats.
What is your favorite meal?
I’d have to say that my favorite meal would consist of eggplant parmesan and sweet potato crisp, some delicious staples that I absolutely love making.
Who is your hero or mentor?
My hero would probably have to be Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, or Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. Both characters are so iconic, and I can’t help but be inspired by them!
