YCCC held Signing Ceremonies at each of our three partner intuitions; York Hospital, Maine Health and Nasson Health Care to kick off our Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
This all-expense paid, 9-month accelerated program will provide participants with paid, on-the-job training and mastery of Medical Assisting skills learned in the classroom at YCCC is generously funded by the Maine Quality Centers (MQC). MQC is part of the Maine Community College System and provides customized workforce training grants to Maine employers, with training delivered through YCCC and Maine’s other community colleges.
“Maine Quality Centers is excited to partner with our Maine health care partners on this apprenticeship training program and provide the funding for this program.” said Dan Belyea – Chief Workforce Development Officer with the Maine Community College System. “The ongoing workforce shortage is facing all employers across this state and this is an important pathway using the work and lean model”
Fourteen participants who meet all program eligibility requirements will work with medical assistants 20 hours a week at a partnering medical office. At the same time, they will receive blended classroom and online instruction from YCCC’s medical assisting instructors.
The Apprenticeship begins on Aug 27, 2021 and runs through June 3, 2022. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will take a national accreditation exam to become Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA). Additionally, participants who successfully complete the program are eligible to receive up to 30 college credits in YCCC’s Health Studies degree program.
